Angel Stadium is in the heart of Anaheim, with major renovations that took place in 1996, which turned the then-30-year-old building into a home just for baseball. In 1997, it became the Edison International Field of Anaheim, and in 2003 it was re-named the Angel Stadium of Anaheim. The total renovation cost was $100 million, and it was completed just in time for the Anaheim Angels opening day on April 1, 1998.
It’s been the home of the Angels ever since they moved from Los Angeles in 1965. The first game was against the San Francisco Giants in a major exhibition game. The original stadium seated about 43,000 fans and was renovated in 1979 to add extra seating (up to 65,158). A number of organizations and businesses were behind the transition, including Walt Disney Imagineering, HOK Sports Facilities Group and Robert A.M. Stern Architects.
